| Text interpretation is the premise of effective reading teaching and in-depth text interpretation can achieve the best effect of reading teaching.English Curriculum Standards for Common Senior High School(2017 Edition)points out that reading a text is an in-depth interpretation of the theme,content,style,structure,language features,the author’s view and so on.Under the requirements of New Curriculum Standard,text interpretation will play an important role in improving students’ key competencies,which are language ability,cultural awareness,thinking quality and learning ability.Teachers should pay attention to cultivating students’ English subject key competencies and put the requirements of New Curriculum Standard into practice when interpreting texts.However,at present,many English teachers’ interpretation of the text is still at the level of explaining grammars,sentences and words and they are lack of in-depth text interpretation from the perspective of key competencies goals.Therefore,based on the requirements of New Curriculum Standard,the author explores the interpretation of high school English texts,which aims at promoting teachers’ text interpretation ability,improving students’ English reading ability and implementing the goals of English subject key competencies.Based on discourse analysis theory and schema theory,this study tries to answer the following two research questions.First,can the application of text interpretation improve students’ use of reading strategies? Second,can the application of text interpretation improve students’ reading achievements?In order to answer the research questions mentioned above,the author selected a total of 80 students from two parallel classes of Grade One in Qin’an No.2 Senior High School.One is regarded as the experimental class of 40 students and the other is the control class which also has 40 students.The text interpretation reading teaching method is adopted in the experimental class,while the control class uses the reading teaching method that emphasizes grammars,sentences and words.Research instruments are mainly questionnaires,tests,teaching experiment and interview.After nearly two months of experiment,the following conclusions are drawn in this study.First,the application of text interpretation can improve students’ use of reading strategies,especially skimming,scanning and guessing words’ meaning strategies.In addition,the use of prediction and recognizing references strategies are also improved.Second,the application of text interpretation can improve students’ reading achievements.This study also provides some suggestions for teachers in reading teaching.Teachers should study New Curriculum Standard carefully,change their teaching concept,guide students to master the reading methods and useinterpretation strategies to improve students’ English subject key competencies.Although this study has certain guiding significance for English reading teaching,it still has some limitations,and it is hoped that future research can be done to improve the study. |
