Visual Working Memory(VWM)is a limited system that can temporarily store Visual information to facilitate other advanced cognitive processes.In recent years,many studies have shown that VWM processing and storage are affected by negative emotional state.The current consensus is that negative emotional state leads to an increase in VWM's memory accuracy,but the exact stage at which this effect occurs is unknown.Negative emotional state may affect memory accuracy by affecting attention range in visual coding,and may also affect memory accuracy by affecting resource allocation of VWM.However,because VWM processing is a continuous stage,it is difficult to directly test the influence of negative emotional state on VWM which stage.In addition,in addition to the effect of negative emotional states on the accuracy of VWM,previous studies have shown that manipulating participants' rewards also allows them to strategically represent memory items with high accuracy But the number of memory items decreased.This is because under the strategy of improving precision,the subjects' attention control is better,so they can restrain the irrelevant interference effectively and process the limited resources on the relevant information.If the memory accuracy can be improved in the negative emotion state,will it also make the subject's attention control better.Considering that the attention control ability is also related to the capacity of the subjects,the attention control ability of the subjects with high VWM capacity is better,which is reflected in the ability of filtering out irrelevant information interference,and the filtering efficiency is higher.However,for low capacity subjects,the interference of irrelevant information can not be suppressed and the filtering efficiency is low.Furthermore,if negative emotions affect attentional control,does it affect filtering efficiency differently for high volume subjects and low volume subjects.Based on the above questions,this study will use pictures to stimulate negative or neutral emotions,and explore the stage at which negative emotions affect Vwm,as well as high and low volume subjects Whether the influence of negative emotion state on filtering efficiency is different.This research series consists of two parts.In the first part,the subjects were asked to perform the recall task of visual working memory in negative and neutral emotional states According to the two-stage model proposed by previous researchers,the presentation time of memory items was manipulated to determine the stage at which the negative emotional state had an effect on VWM.The results of experiment1 showed that negative emotional state did not affect VWM performance when the duration of stimulus was short.However,in experiment 2,negative emotion increased the accuracy of VWM and decreased the number of VWM,and there was a trade-offbetween memory accuracy and quantity.These results indicate that the effect of negative emotion on VWM is mainly in the resource allocation phase of VWM,but not in the attention processing phase of visual coding.In the second part,the subjects were divided into high and low volume groups by the color change detection task,in order to explore whether there are differences in the filtering effect between the subjects with different VWM capacity in the negative emotion state.The results of the second part show that for high-volume subjects,negative emotion state does not affect the filtering effect,while for low-volume subjects,negative emotion can improve the filtering ability and make them filter out the disturbing items effectively.The results of three experiments show that the effect of negative emotion on VWM mainly occurs in the resource allocation stage.Because of the effect of negative emotion,the accuracy of memory items is improved under the condition of Long Time There is a trade-off between accuracy and quantity when quantity is reduced.In addition,the VWM filtering efficiency of low volume subjects was improved under the negative emotion condition,which again indicated that the negative emotion did not always have a negative effect on VWM.Finally,the author puts forward the explanation of the influence of negative emotional state on VWM resource allocation and filtering effect,and the problems that can be further deepened.
