Pan Chi pattern and Pan Hui pattern are the most representative patterns on bronze wares of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty. The Sanjin region was one of the most culturally prosperous regions in the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, and also took a leading position in bronze casting technology. Therefore, the Pan Chi pattern and Pan Hui pattern are the most abundant forms on bronze wares in Sanjin region. The so-called Pan Chi pattern refers to the coiled and overlapped sting pattern.Due to the close relationship between sting and dragon,in a broad sense, any overlapping dragon pattern can be classified into the category of Pan Chi pattern. The so-called Pan Hui pattern is a kind of snake.Due to the shape of bronze decorations, there will be great changes in different kinds of implements. Therefore, the dragon pattern and snake pattern on containers, musical instruments, chariots and horses should be studied in typology respectively. The patterns of Pan Chi patterns on various bronze wares are quite different.Among them, the patterns of Pan Chi patterns on containers are the most abundant, which can be divided into four types:C-shape,S-shape,CS composite shape and deformed Pan Chi pattern. The C-shaped Pan Chi pattern is divided into 4 types and 8 types. The S-shaped Pan Chi pattern can also be divided into 4 types. The deformed Pan Chi pattern can be divided into 3 types. On the other hand, the Pan Chi pattern on musical instruments and chariots and horses have different patterns and seem to be found irregularly. The patterns of Pan Hui patterns on various bronze wares are not different, among which the Pan Hui patterns on containers are the most and can be divided into 4 types. There are few Pan Hui pattern on musical instruments and chariots and horses, which can also be classified into these 4 types.According to the bronze age,the Pan Chi pattern and Pan Hui pattern can be studied by stages. The middle of Spring and Autumn is the embryonic stage of the development of these two decorative patterns. The decorative patterns in this period are relatively simple and few in style. The late Spring and Autumn Period to the early Warring States Period were the heyday of the development of these two kinds of ornamentation, with a large number of diversified ornamentation forms and finer ornamentation. In the middle of the Warring States Period, the Pan Chi pattern and Pan Hui pattern had almost disappeared. The Pan Chi pattern should be the product of the combination and change of dragon pattern and "broad figure band" pattern.Pan Hui pattern is a variant of Pan Chi pattern. Moreover,in the long development process of Pan Chi pattern, the rule from line pattern to patterned pattern and then to change pattern has emerged. The research on Pan Chi pattern and Pan Hui pattern of bronze wares in the Eastern Zhou Dynasty in the Sanjin region is an important part of the research on bronze decorations. This study is helpful to provide the basis for the division of artifacts by stages. It can also help us understand the spiritual civilization and aesthetic changes of the society at that time.
