Teacher's discourse stands for the words a teacher says during class.It is the major medium of class teaching and a important way of language input for students which also serves as a model for language learning.At present,the study on classroom discourse of teachers has become a major subject in the field of foreign language teaching.As important components of teacher's discourse,enquiry and feedback play a significant role in teaching Chinese as a foreign language,especially to beginners.The appropriate use of teacher's classroom discourse,in particular,enquiry and feedback has impacts on the teaching effect and interest of Chinese learners in studying.So far there is a lot of research on classroom enquiry and feedback.However there is not much studies on Chinese teaching in Thailand.Therefore the author has gathered50-minute teaching videos of six novice teachers and three proficient teachers during the four-month teaching practice in Thailand.The author transfers these videos into texts and analyses transferred texts along with interviews with these teachers.Based on real class data,the author aims at finding out the difference between novice teachers and proficient ones.This thesis is divided into five parts.The first part introduces the topic source,object of study,research method,research purpose and significance,and provides an overview of related researches done by others.The second part is the study design which explains the standard of object choosing,tells general information of the objects,defines the principle of data handling,and introduces the research process.The third part covers the comparative analysis of enquiry of novice and proficient teachers.Based on data analysis and interviews,the author makes comparisons from the aspects of quantity,response rate,ways of questioning and question types.The fourth part is the analysis of teacher's feedback.The fifth part serves as summary and suggestions.It summarizes the whole thesis and discusses its shortcomings.The author hopes to provide some effective suggestions for the better use ofenquiry and feedback of novice teachers,thus contributing to the elementary Chinese teaching practice of new teachers.
