Abstract/Summary:
Since Buddhism was introduced into China,it has been divided during the Southern and Northern Dynasties.The development mode of heavy Buddhist meditation and light justice in Northern Buddhism has become the mainstream of Buddhist development in the later.Among these,Buddhism in the Northern Wei Dynasty occupied an important position in the formation of the Northern Buddhism development model.During the early Buddhism period of the Northern Wei Dynasty,there were a total of more than fifty years of Emperor Taoist Tuoba,Emperor Yuandi Tuoba,and Emperor Taiwu Tuoba.During this period,Buddhism experienced prosperity,decline and destruction.The main content of this article is the pre-Buddhist period of the Northern Wei Dynasty,the evolution of TuoBa’s Buddhist policy,and the analysis of the evolution of this policy.The article is divided into four chapters.The first chapter discusses and analyzes the regime’s supportive policies of Buddhism in the Northern Wei Dynasty,and points out the hidden dangers of the development of Buddhism during this period.The second chapter reveals the intrinsic motivation of TuoBaTao’s changes in Buddhism policy and the new development of Buddhism in this period through the analysis of the changes in the political situation in TuoBaTao’s reign.The third chapter,through the comprehensive analysis of the Taiwu Buddhism disaster,as the largest event in Buddhism in the early Northern Buddhism,analyzes the fundamental cause of the Taiwu Buddhism disaster and the reasons for the tortuous development of Buddhism in the early Northern Wei Dynasty.Chapter 4 discusses the intrinsic motivation of the Northern Wei Dynasty’s religious policy through the discussion of the Tuoba Xianbei Cultural Psychology and the Tian Shi Dao,and deepens the understanding of the causes of the twists and turns in Buddhism in the early Northern Buddhism period.Through the research of this article,the author believes that the change of TuoBa Xianbei’s closed cultural mentality and political situation is the fundamental cause ofthe change of the Northern Wei regime’s Buddhist policy in the early Buddhism period,and the dull political reaction of Buddhism has also contributed to the development of Buddhism’s twists and turns.
