| The media political discourse of the international public opinion industry does not reflect objective reality, but is a process of competing for discourse rights with the purpose of constructing a cognitive framework. The political discourse of the media often expresses kinds of social ethics, national identity, and political identity. As a perceptual phenomenon in the process of human understanding of the world, metaphor can easily produce invisible intervention in this cognitive process. These implied political intentions require a discourse analysis method to interpret. The critical metaphorical perspective is a very good research method. It combines the research interests of critical discourse analysis with metaphorical methods of cognitive linguistics which provides an ideal analytical framework for media political discourse research. From this way can excavate hidden unequal power relations and ideological features in discourse texts. This article selects the "THAAD" as a case.Starting from the perspective of critical metaphors, this article selected 276 news reports from Chinese media and American media in June 2016 and August 2016,respectively.This article uses a combination of qualitative research and computer-aided analysis methods. This article attempts to answer the following three questions:What are the metaphoric preferences of political discourse in Chinese and American media? What are the metaphorical intentions behind the metaphorical strategies of media discourse between China and the United States? How metaphorical strategies are used by Chinese and American media to influence public opinion? This article believes that when the Sino-U.S.media use metaphorical strategies to report "THAAD",although their preferences are somewhat different, they all show similar"conflict opinion" patterns in the text. For example, the use of "personal metaphors" in the media samples of the two countries is the highest, but analysis of the connection relationships between the "source domains" types suggests that the components that make up this type of metaphor are not the same. The metaphorical intentions of the media of the two countries are mainly concentrated on the following points:Who has promoted the nuclear weapons crisis on the Korean peninsula?Does it make sense to use force to shock the Korean peninsula? What is the true intention of deploying "THAAD" in the United States and South Korea?Whose opinions should South Korea listen to?Who is undermining the strategic balance in Northeast Asia?Who is seeking private gain in the chaotic situation in the Asia-Pacific region?Who will push Northeast Asia to the "new cold war"?At the same time, the metaphorical intention of the media in China and the United States is not to "talk to one’s own words" or"decentralized distribution," but to show the characteristics of "dialogue" and"confrontation." The metaphorical strategy of media will be used to construct a national image that are consistent with it and obtain rights belong to it. |
