The Effect Of Essentialist Belief On Ethnicity Classification Of Face Recognition

Classification of face recognition refers to when classifying faces according to a certain social standard,people showing ingroup faces memory performance better than outgroup.Previous studies less attention to special categories.The present research try to verify ethnic classification of face recognition favoritism.On this basis,we also discusses factors influencing face recognition.People who holds will be see the nation is immutable,entrenched(genetic or biological).Essentialist thinking promotes the perception that the boundaries between racial groups are clear,leading to a single,rigid ethnic classification,makes it easier to show memory favoritism.In study 1,we explore ethnic classification face memory preference and the relationship between essential belief and ethnic classification face memory performance.respectively use Uygur(1a)and Han(1b)adult faces as experiment material,Study 1a,randomly selected 42 Han and 32 Uygur college students;Study1b,randomly selected 36 Han and 29 uygur college students.The results of data analysis found that participants showing better performance in ingroup classification faces than outgroup classification faces.And ethnicity belief of essentialism negative forecasts ethnic classification face memory performance.In study 2,we explore the effect of essentialist belief on ethnicity classification of face recognition.Use Uighur and Han adult faces as experiment material.Randomly selected 116 Han nationality college students.Data analysis of the results showed that: Compared with the condition of social construction belief prime,individuals are more likely to show preferences of ethnic classification of face recognition under the condition of essentialist belief prime.Based on the results of the above two research data analysis and discussion,this paper drew the following conclusions:(1)when classification of the same kind faces on ethnicities,participants show ingroup classification face favoritism;(2)essentialist belief of ethnicity negative predicts ethnic classification face memory performance;(3)people hold high level of essentialist belief of ethnicity are more likely to show the ingroup classification face favoritism.
