A Report On The Translation Of Judicial Politics News On CHINADAILY Website

The recent years have witnessed the improvement of China's judicial administrative system and an ever-growing amount of open judicial information.Therefore,the construction of official English websites of People's courts has been attached great significance with an aim to promote publicity tasks.CHINADAILY Website,as one of the most important national news media platforms,has taken up the program to establish the official English website of the Supreme People's Court.Working as a part-time trans-editor,the author is responsible for translating judicial politics news from Chinese to English.This report is completed based on the translation practice.The report consists of four parts: task description,procedure description,case analysis under the Translation Variation Theory and summary.Chapter One involves the introduction of the background and requirement of the task and the features of the source text.Chapter Two briefs on the task preparation,translation process and proofreading.The third part is the case study.The author,in this part,introduces the Translation Variation Theory and concentrates on the necessity and the feasibility of the application of the theory into the E-C translation of the judicial politics news.Given the lexical,syntactic and discourse characteristics of the judicial politics materials and the criteria of English news,the author also demonstrates the examples extracted from the translation practice and discusses how the variation methods under the theory provide guidance for the translation of the source text to meet the demands of target readers.On the lexical level,expansion,condensation,reformation and commentary are employed to translate judicial terminologies,guideline slogans and culture-loaded words.On the syntactic level,expansion,reformation and edition deal with the non-subject sentences as well as long and complicated sentences.On the discourse level,deletion and condensation play roles in rendering critical information and removing redundant contents.Chapter Four is the summary of the gains and deficiencies of the practice and the expectations for the future translation work.The author hopes the report can provide valuable ideas and suggestions to the translation practice of the same kind of texts in the future.
