Aimed at discussing the current situation,achievements and areas that needed improvement of the rural teachers support system in ASEAN countries,the International Seminar on Developing Support System for Rural Teachers for ASEAN Countries was held at Guangxi Normal University in 2017.The event attracted many teachers,scholars and experts from both the ASEAN and China.The author assumed the role of the interpreter for an interview on the current situation of Malaysian rural teacher development,an affiliated activity of the seminar.This practice report reflects on and summarizes the author's deficiencies and gains in advance preparation and interpretation performance and analyses the interpreting skills adopted.In addition to an overall description of the entire process,the report pays special attention to the disflunency,missing-out of information,misinterpretation and redundancy during the interpretation and the possible causes of them.These deficiencies affected the author's performance and thus reduced the communication quality between the two parties.During the process of interpreting,the author adopted strategies such as efforts allocation,anticipation and reconstruction,and coped with the interference from surroundings.Those strategies and coping tactics had an obvious contribution to the accuracy and fluency of the interpretation.In this report,examples are used for case study to support the points mentioned above.Through reflecting on and analyzing this interpreting practice,the author hopes to provide some references to other interpreters. |
