Identity is one of the decisive factors that affect teachers' professional development.In recent years,the researches of the English teacher's character of independent colleges are growing gradually,and English Teacher Identity has steadily become a hot topic in the field of foreign language teacher education.Most of the researches are qualitative research,and quantitative analysis on English teacher identity is relatively rare,while studies on English teacher identity in Independent Colleges in China are even less.So,the author investigated English teacher identity of the independent college.The theoretical basis is made up of teacher identity theory and critical discourse analysis theory,based on four dimensions and eight elements theory of Yang Xun.This research investigates Li Jiang College of Guangxi Normal University,Bo Wen College of Management Guilin University of Technology,College of Information Technology,Guilin University of Electronic Science and Technology,Faculty of Chinese Medicine Science Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine,Pass College of Chong Qing Technology& Business University,so as to investigate the gap between current situation and theory.This research is to explore the following three questions:What is the overall status of independent college English teacher identity?What is the grouping situation of independent college English teacher identity(gender,professional title,and age and education background)?What are the problems and solutions of independent college English teacher identity?Research tools in this study are questionnaire and interview.The questionnaire is to investigate the overall situation of independent college English teacher identity.Concerning Doctor Yang Xun's High School English Teacher Identity Questionnaire,the author formed Independent College English Teacher Identity Questionnaire by the actual situation.The interview is to solve the problems of independent college English teacher identity and offer solutions.Overall situation: the global level of independent college English teacher identity is high,but the situated identity and personal identity are low,mainly situated identity is the most economical.Grouping findings:(1)the main reason of low independent college English teacher identity is low situated identity,especially lowest organizational support,which is the reason why nearly half of English teachers in independent colleges feel stressful to jobs.(2)The other reason for identity problem is that men teachers do not show an active attitude towards independent college English course reform and some independent colleges still exist gender discrimination.(3)Educational background and professional titles will affect the occupational value of independent college English teachers.Higher educational background and higher professional titles show higher occupational value.(4)Compared to other age time,English teachers of 1960 s in independent colleges have the highest level of sense of belonging and behavioral tendency,while teachers in 1970 s show the lowest level.(5)The frequency of learning strategic usages is:teaching reflection> expert guidance > teaching research> reading professional books> learning from colleagues> cooperative learning> online learning> improving educational background.Suggestions: educational department should manage staff by the facts of independent college English teacher identity,perfecting teachers' evaluating system without blind imitation.The gap between family burden and income is becoming an important issue caring for the teachers.All independent universities in our country should pay attention to English teaching,caring about teachers' occupational survival and career development.Treat men and women teachers equally without discrimination and give more care to women teachers.Conducting humanized teachers' managing model,schools should meet the need of English teacher job development to retain staff.And for providing a better environment for English teaching,schools should improve hardware and software devices in English teaching.
