The Study Of The Shimonoseki War

After the industrial revolution,Western powers accelerated the pace of overseas expansion,Russia,Britain,France and the United States continue to demand that Japan open the country.Under external pressure,Japan's cut off country from outsides policy was hit.From the black ship in 1853 to the Meiji Restoration in 1868,Japan's national gate was opened step by step.During this period,the process of starting a country was not smooth,and there was a strong tendency to cut off country from outsides.Shogunate has not signed the trade treaty with The Emperor of Japan,causing dissatisfaction with the power of Sonn? j?i faction.They continue to kill foreigners,create conflicts between Shogunate and the countries of the treaty,and force Shogunate drive off the barbarians through public opinion,put Shogunate in a dilemma.Under the circumstance of the drive off the barbarians,Shogunate also lifted the flag of the drive off the barbarians in order to regain the political dominance,and proposed to the treaty countries to lock the port,and announced that they would drive off the barbarians on May 10,1863.On the day when Shogunate issued the drive off the barbarians,Choshu clan launched the drive off the barbarians war in Shimonoseki,and the Shimonoseki war broke out.This war is the culmination of the development of Sonn? j?i campaign,but its impact is beyond the expectations of Choshu clan.Before the Shimonoseki war,Choshu clan insisted on the drive off the barbarians route.It was the main force of Sonn? j?i faction.After the Shimonoseki war,Choshu clan abandoned the drive off the barbarians and chose to turn off the route and become one of the main players.In the follow-up negotiations of the Shimonoseki War,Britain was no longer satisfied with the monopoly trade with Shogunate,requiring all the big names to participate in it to obtain greater trade benefits,and Shogunate chose to cooperate with France to continue to monopolize the trade interests,thus Britain oppose France,and Britain approached Satsuma clan and Choshu clan.In this way,foreign forces against Shogunate have emerged internationally,and the main force of the Shogunate power has formed in the country,thus forming domestic and foreign conditions for realizing Meiji Restoration.The purpose of this paper is to sort out the international situation before and after the Shimonoseki war and the domestic political situation,analyze the real reasons of the Shimonoseki expedition Shimonoseki and the influence of the Shimonoseki war on Choshu clan and Britain,and explore the connection between the Shimonoseki war and the Meiji Restoration process.
