The French thinker Paul Ricoeur has been paying attention to the issue of the difficulty of the explanation of "Time" for a long time. His profound knowledge allows him to freely convert and absorb nutrients in literature, history and philosophy. On the basis of re-examining and criticizing the views of the predecessors,he constructs a "Narrative Time Theory" with his own characteristics, which is based on "three-fold imitation" and contains the intersection of two narrative paradigms—historical narrative and fictional narrative. He tries to utilizer "narrative" as an intermediary in Temps et Récit(Three volumes)to expose and interpret the meaning of "Time".However,Ricoeur's "Narrative Time Theory" does not solve all the doubts about time, and in the process of interrogating the intersection of historical narrative and fictional narrative, the issue of "Narrative Identity" is highlighted as a new problem. The research of "Narrative Identity" is based on the goal of "understanding of oneself",which is closely related to the subjective issue which Ricoeur has followed with interest. The discussion of "Narrative Identity" is based on the distinction between "sameness-identity" and "self-identity".In his book Oneself as Another,Ricoeur focuses on the issue of Identity. He believes that the distinction between "sameness-identity" and "self-identity" is the potential solution to identity paradox.Paul Ricoeur believes that narrative identity is a kind of "self-identity" which points to the practical life.Narrative is an open system, while the narrative identity also involves itself and the other,it appeals to the other to communicate.Through reflection, the subject constantly breaks the stereotype of itself. The subjectivity exists in the process of constantly reflecting on itself while pointing to the other and the world. This kind of affirmation of the subject of rethinking itself is the path that Paul Ricoeur knows about himself. It is also an important way to break the traditional subjective confrontation. He advocates "detour" through reflection, and constructs a new subjectivity that is accessible to itself through the external heterogeneity factors such as narrative, text and culture. This kind of dynamic subjectivity with the help of the other is positive for the debate on the traditional "absolute subjectivity" and "no subjectivity".The thesis will focus on Paul Ricoeur's two books—Time and Narrative and Oneself as Another.Through the analysis of narrative theory, the thesis emphasizes the role of narrative as an intermediary in solving the problem of time.In the process of interpreting Ricoeur's analysis of the relationship between historical narrative and fictional narrative,a new "narrative identity" is created.Narrative identity as a kind of "self-identity" constantly breaks the prescriptiveness of itself and creates an intersection with the other. The subjectivity arises in the process of reflecting on itself while pointing to the other and the world. The important role that Ricoeur's reflective subject plays owns a positive value in response to today's "no subjectivity".
