In recent years, with the development of China's economy, cultural exchanges between countries are frequent, more and more Chinese literary works have been introduced to other countries. As an important part of China's profound culture and literary works, the translation of Chinese modern prose has become increasingly important. However, there are few theoretical works on prose translation, consequently, the analysis and discussion of translation of Chinese prose under the guidance of functional equivalence theory is of great significance.Nida's functional equivalence theory is one of the famous translation theories, which is based on the equivalence in meaning and style.Under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence theory, this report analyzes the translation of Yang Jiang's prose "Thoughts at the End of Life" from the perspectives of meaning, style and culture. In terms of meaning,it analyzes whether the translation accurately conveys the information of the original text from the level of referential meaning and associative meaning. In terms of style,it analyzes whether the translation reproduces the style of the original text from the linguistic style, features and rhetoric aspects of the work.In terms of culture, the paper analyzes whether the translation conforms to the language expression habit and transmits Chinese culture well and truly from the perspective of culture-loaded words and colloquial sayings. The translator uses different translation methods and skills, such as literal translation, free translation, adaptation, substitution, amplification, omission,Pinyin and annotation to achieve functional equivalence, thus reflecting the guiding significance of functional equivalence theory in prose translation. This report, under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence theory, analyzes the translation of "Thoughts at the End of Life" from the perspectives of meaning, style and culture,it hopes to provide some guidance and reference for prose translation.
