| In recent years, the research on the application of second language acquisition has drawn more and more attention from researchers. The process of intonation acquisition is still rarely studied in depth until now, which need the support of proper theory and methodology. The emergence and development of dynamic systems theory provide a new perspective for the study of L2 intonation acquisition.Larsen-Freeman introduces dynamic systems theory into applied linguistics, which challenges the linear model of language development and provides a new framework and perspective for the development of second language acquisition.Based on the research results of complex dynamic system theory in second language acquisition, this research applies the dynamic system theory into the process of English intonation acquisition of Chinese college students, which hope to provide references and inspirations for the oral English teaching and learning. This study takes Halliday’s(1967)3T system(tonality, tonicity, tone)and Dynamic System Theory as theoretical frameworks, the acoustic analysis software Praat, data analysis software Excel as research tools,TOBI as the annotation basis, the recordings of a native speaker and the textbook as the reference standard, and 50 freshmen English majors from Yan Shan University as research subject to conduct a one-year follow-up study.By comparing the intonation characteristics of four times’ recordings of 50 students with the reference recording from the three aspects of tonality, tonicity and tone, the deviation in intonation between them are discovered and induced, and the factors affecting intonation acquisition are gotten by means of questionnaire, and the relevant analyses are made by using Spss, finally, the dynamic system theory is applied to analyze and describe and analyze the learner’s English intonation acquisition process. It is found that the trend of students’ intonation acquisition can be explained by the dynamic system theory.During their first university year, the students’ acquisition situation in tonality, tonicity and tone experience a brief period of intense turmoil, but eventually returns to the attractive state overall, that is,the acquisition deviation makes small changes around the attractive state. In addition, the relevant analysis shows the mother language, teaching environment and facilities, learner’s personal subjective factors, and others’ feedback and evaluation have a significant influence on students’ English intonation acquisition.A large number of “confusing details” in the process of intonation acquisition reflect the flexibility, variability and dynamic adaptability of acquisition. Many factors affect the acquisition process.Dynamic system theory is applicable to explain and describe the intonation acquisition process. It is a new try that study the process of English intonation acquisition from the perspective of dynamic system theory, and there are practical significances in the development of oral English teaching. |
