This paper cuts into the discussion of the issue of time in Chinese swordsman movies at the philosophical level by proposing three time characteristics of swordsman movies.The first chapter summarizes the three time characteristics of swordsman movies,including the pre-existence of chivalry culture,the self-inheritance of swordsman movies' narratives,and the supernormality of action time.In the second,third and fourth chapters,the resolution strategies of the three kinds of time characteristics of Chinese swordsman movies and the time concept embodied in them are discussed.Chapter Two discusses the construction of the swordsman movies narrative to its own prehistory: based on the national history and chivalry culture that existed before the film,a swordsman movie was able to fully “construct” the history in the narrative process.This makes the “linear” form of the traditional narrative lose its basic point of existence,and the “narrative line” is deconstructed to a certain extent.Chapter Three explores the development of swordsman movies narrative: the existence of “history” in swordsman movies is very rich.Except for the existence of “pre-history” as a narrative background,it also has a closer relationship with “the present”,making the narrative of swordsman movies develop.Chinese swordsman movies pay special attention to the expression of history,thus realizing a response to the human time dilemma in the sense of Paul Ricoeur.Chapter Four discusses the extraordinary time and editing strategies of swordsman movies: for swordsman movies that focus on martial arts movements,how to achieve even continuous innovation is an important issue for the performance of fighting actions that transcend daily speed.The continuous development of technological level and concept of time makes the means of expression of time always in the process of innovation and development.The fifth chapter of this paper abstracts two time-related writing styles with modern image consciousness,namely “narration situation” and fragmentation editing,in order to sum up the experience of the modernization of swordsman movies.The writing of time in swordsman movies embodies a sense of transcendence of time in life.This can find some source from the national philosophy and aesthetic tradition.Through the exploration and exploration of the unique time problem of swordsman movies,this paper attempts to seek the cultural roots of its time consciousness from ancient Chinese philosophy and aesthetics,and hopes to provide inspiring value for the further development and transformation of swordsman movies.
