| Production-Oriented Approach(POA)is a new teaching method proposed by Professor Wen Qiufang.Its predecessor is output and input hypothesis,and its theoretical basis are the “three hypothesis”,that is Output-driven Hypothesis,Input enabled Hypothesis and Selective Learning Hypothesis,and “three principles”,namely,Learning-centered Principle,Learning-using Integrated Principle and Whole-person Education Principle.Writing is one of the important skills in foreign language learning.The purpose of writing teaching is not only to practice writing for memorizing knowledge,but also to help them understand and express meaning precisely.Traditional writing teaching did not do much in cultivating students’ writing ability,improving student’s writing skills and motivating students’ writing enthusiasm.Based on the Production Oriented Approach,the author has designed English writing teaching plans in accordance with “Motivating”,“Enabling” and “Assessing”for senior high school students.The teaching design helps students improve their writing competence through “out-driven teaching design”,“in-put enabling teaching design” and “assessing teaching design”.In the “motivating” teaching design,the communicative topics about“employment”,“natural disasters earthquake”,“disease” and different genres “letter”,“expository”,“news release” are selected as samples try to stimulate students’ interest in writing.In the “enabling” part,six sub-tasks are designed to accumulate material for learners,from words,sentences to discourse,step by step,gradually to produce well-written compositions.In the “assessment” part,the teacher presents and learn the evaluation criteria with students in advance and adopts different ways,forexample teacher-student assessment,student assessment and machine assessment to assess students’ compositions.The assessment helps students have a sense of achievement,at the same time,and be aware of their shortcomings and enhance their confidence.So students can comprehensively understand their output compositions.As an newly emerged theory,POA not only enriches contemporary educational theories and reflects the current teaching philosophy,but also helps to stimulate learners’ interest in learning English and improving their enthusiasm.The teaching design based on POA is a new method for English writing teaching in senior high school. |
