In terms of the teacher talk,there are wide attentions and interests have been aroused by scholars at home and abroad.However,a few studies do the research about Attitude resources in teacher talk and their influence upon the classroom atmosphere.Given this,the thesis is attempted to apply the Appraisal Theory to analyzing the Attitude resources in teacher talk of high-quality English reading classes in Junior high school.This study has three questions: What are the types of Attitude resources in the teacher talk of high-quality English reading classes in junior high school? What is the distribution of Attitude resources in the teacher talk of high-quality English reading classes in junior high school?How do these Attitude resources in the teacher talk of high-quality English reading classes influence the classroom atmosphere? This study transcribing the 10 excellent teachers’ classes in Twelfth National Junior High School English Demonstration Lessons,and the author identifies the distribution of Attitude Resources and analyzes how Attitude Resources influence on classroom atmosphere.The findings are as following: There are Attitude resources in teacher talk while the frequencies of Attitude resources are different.Appreciation ranks the highest amount,followed by Judgment while Affect occupies the lowest proportion;The teachers use Affect resources to express their own opinions and feelings;the teachers use Judgment resources to evaluate the students’ abilities and characteristics;the teachers use Appreciation resources to evaluate the students’ performances as well as the teaching contents.The ten teachers all use Attitude resources flexibly and tactfully and teacher talk can affect the classroom atmosphere through the use of Attitude resources.In English classroom,teachers should use more positive Attitude resources to evaluate students and try to be as objective as possible when they evaluate students.At the same time,teachers should pay attention to using different Attitude resources to evaluate students according to their individual differences.
