Guan Gong Birth Legend Study

The birth legend of Guan Gong is an important part of the legend of Guan Gong.Its contents include the past,the reincarnation,the juvenile study,and the escape of Guan Gong.Because of its long history and wide spread,the legend of Guan Gong has many different variants.Until now,the birth legend of Guan Gong still maintains a tenacious vitality.This paper uses literature research method,comparative research method,type and motif research method and cultural anthropology research method.Based on the classification and analysis of formation background of Guan Gong legend,the type and motif of Guan Gong birth legend,and the analysis and interpretation,cultural connotations and characteristics contained in the legend of Guan Gong are tried to find.This paper consists of an introduction,three main chapters,conclusion,references,and appendix.The introduction mainly introduces the topic and significance,research overview and research methods of this paper.The first chapter,this chapter mainly introduces the background and evolution of the formation of Guan Gong legend and the role of Guan Gong's birth legend.In the background of the formation of Guan Gong legend,the three aspects of social history,religion,culture and military are classified according to different types produced in different era backgrounds.The role of the Guan Gong birth legend consists of three parts: history supplement,guiding role,and identity function.The second chapter,this chapter uses the type and motif research method and comparative research method to summarize the Guan Gong birthlegend into multiple motifs of eight types and eight plots.In the process of discussion,the format of the type or motif,and the cases of the legend of Guan Gong birth and similar plots of other legends are compared,and the similarities and differences are analyzed.The third chapter uses the method of cultural anthropology to analyze and summarize the connotation and characteristics of the birth culture in the birth legend of Guan Gong.The cultural connotation of the birth legend is summarized as three parts: reincarnation,birth,and naming.The generalization of the characteristics is obtained based on the comparison between the birth legend and the Guan Gong legend.The birth legend of Guan Gong has the fusion of Buddha and Tao;regional and national nature;richness and complexity;the combination of divinity and humanity;and the use of folk literature motif.In conclusion,this paper takes the legend of Guan Gong and its birth legend as a sample.Through the analysis of the background of Guan Gong legend,the role,type and motif of the birth legend,the cultural connotation and characteristics of Guan Gong's birth legend are obtained.On this basis,the place of agreement of the birth legend of Guan Gong and the current era is analyzed,and how to use the legend of Guan Gong to realize the construction of spiritual civilization is explored.
