Shikitei Sanba(1776-1822),the representative writer of "Comic Books" in the late Edo period, has created more than 140 works in his life, involving Comic Books,Graphic Novel,Collection of Picture Books,Reading Books and other different types of popular novels. The Comic Books of Ukiyo Bath House and Ukiyo Barber Shop were the masterpieces of Sanba, translated into Chinese by Zhou Zuoren and published by People's Literature Publishing House in the 1950 s.The so-called " ukiyo " has the meaning of worrying about the world, but in Sanba's writings,it should be regarded as the present world or the secular world, which means Edo's merchant world.Judging from the characters of these two works, they are also dominated by the merchant class.Because Tokugawa shogunate implemented a strict hierarchical "scholar-peasant-industrial-commercial" identity system, the lower class of businessmen, that is the merchant class, although they have strong economic strength, but they do not have social status. Therefore, the merchant people gradually formed a character of not stingy money and self-sufficiency.Ukiyo Bath House and Ukiyo Barber Shop depict a society full of fun and vitality.Sanba chose the bathroom and barber shop as the background space of the novel, and at the same time,in each space, several small specific locations were taken as the center of the description. For example, the entrance of bathroom, the partition between the men's bathhouse and the women's bathhouse and the second floor of the rich area,as well as the partition window in the barber shop and the connection between the barber shop and whorehouse. The space in Sanba's works is not arbitrarily set,and the choice of each space implies certain cultural connotations. In the preface of Ukiyo Bath House,Sanba said that when passing through the entrance of bathroom, both Confucius and ordinary people should bow their heads, which is the sense of equality in the bathhouse.Such as,combining a place in space with its cultural significance, and expressing it in the form of popular novels, this is Sanba's idea of being educated in happiness. Therefore, the discussion of the space in Shikitei Sanba's Comic Books of the style pavilion is to excavate the space structure and the cultural connotation in the space of Ukiyo Bath House and Ukiyo Barber Shop.In addition, with Bakhtin's space-time theory, the stylistic space of Ukiyo Bath House is analyzed. The so-called "space-time" is the combination of time and space. From the narrative form of Ukiyo Bath House,Sanba puts all kinds of characters in a space, and time becomes a narrative power. Therefore, the flow of time is used to promote the development of narrative, thus setting up the framework of the whole novel. From the nature of Sanba's space, the bathhouse and barber shop are both business places, that is to say, these spaces have productivity.Productivity is one of the main characteristics of Sanba's Comic Book. This narrative mode is in accordance with Lefebvre's "production of space".The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter discusses the concept of comic and the formation of the style of Sanba's Comic Books.Chapter two centers on the space problems in Ukiyo Bath House and Ukiyo Barber Shop.It involves the style space in Sanba's Comic Books and the space layout in the bath house and barber shop,so as to explore the cultural connotation in the space. The third chapter mainly combines the spatiality and productivity in Sanba's Comic Books, and explains the commercial propaganda problems in Ukiyo Bath House and Ukiyo Barber Shop, the education problems in the bath house and barber shop, and the influence of this text form on later literature. It can be said that the bath house and barber shop in Sanba's Comic Books,as two unique spaces, contain both economic significance and cultural heritage and renewal.
