| Gaius Sallustius Crispus was a famous politician and writer in the Late Roman Republic during the 1st century BC.The historical works of Sallustius which enjoyed great reputations are Bellum Catilinae,Bellum Iugurthinum and the fragmentaries of the Historiae,where he describes and discusses the historical and political situation of the Roman Republic.The historical style of Sallustius succeeded theme initiated by the Greek historian Thucydides,with Virtus as principle of morality and on the political and military aspects,through which Sallustius investigated the reason why the Roman Republic declined.Accordingly,same as Cicero,the works of Sallustius later became one of the most distinguished models of Classical Latin.The Epistulae ad Caesarem senem de re publica IIwas writtern in middle of 1st century BC.The rhetorical style in these epistles is similliar to theme of Sallustius.The key thought in his epistles is Restituta re publica,and he provided many steps and methods which need to be carried out.Based on former studies of the classicists,the thesis provides a Chinese translation with annotations.The thesis includes three parts,which are the summaries on the relative aspects,the translation and the annotations.The translation is based on Klinz’s text of the Aschendorffsche Verlagsbuchhandlung Lateinischer und Griechischer klassiker,and the translation is based on those of Rolfe and Vretska. |
