It's obviously important to learn English well in today's society.However,many senior high students are on the first stage of learning English where many learning problems they are faced with are necessarily concerned with vocabulary.It's natural,of course,because vocabulary is the basic aspect and the most important part for language learning,including English.But for the students in our country,especially the students in the remote rural area in our country,it's only in the classroom that the students can have the opportunity to learn and practice English within so limited time.Meanwhile,in the teaching procedure,many teachers usually attach great importance to grammar and neglect vocabulary.What's more,the teaching method of vocabulary is generally agreed to be too monotonous.More students would rather spend more time on grammar than study the learning strategies for vocabulary,and some even know nothing about how to grasp more words.Actually,it seems that vocabulary are not that important,but if you want to be in a higher level in speaking,listening,reading and writing,or even do better in English,all you need to do is learn English vocabulary by heart and master the basic knowledge of it.At the same time,we have accurate High School Curriculum Standards which shows cleary how much words a high school student should know.In addition to the number of the words,it also suggests possible vocabulary learning strategies and encourages active learning and positive team work and high efficiency in language learning,especially in vocabulary.To achieve these aims,we need to discuss effective learning strategies,especially strategies for vocabulary.As for strategies,many researchers,both home and abroad,have been working hard on those learning strategies for vocabulary to improve students' learning efficiency and they have made great breakthrough.Some researchers in our country focus increasingly on this aspect too and have some related research,for example,aiming at the students in university,majoring in English,or graduate students etc.,while it's quite uncommon to see research into the beginners' vocabulary,and less in the rural area.High school period is vital to English learning and most students with poor results in English have some connection with vocabulary.Also most of them are wasting a lot of time learning English in vain.So it's meaningful and necessary to explore useful learning strategies.I have studied various learning theories both home and abroad,which are connectionism,information processing theory,theories of cognition and metacognition,resource management strategy,including vocabulary learning theories in this paper,with my own teaching experience referred to.And I did surveys about students' learning facts and the usage of vocabulary strategies in our school with questionnaires and interviews,to conclude some practical and suitable vocabulary learning strategies for our rural students,such as reiteration strategy,reading comprehension strategy,team work strategy,imagination strategy and games strategy and so on.According to this study,I believe in the language learning process,with the help of some effective vocabulary learning strategies which are suitable enough for learners and the correct learning attitude together with hard work,the students' vocabulary will be greatly improved and thus their language learning ability will step into a higher level.
