A Translation Report On Private Placement Memorandum

In the context of globalization,China is actively getting involved in the foreign cooperation.From the accession to the WTO to the proposal of the Belt and Road Initiative,commercial exchanges between China and other countries have become increasingly frequent.Many multinational companies not only directly invest in China,but also seek for Chinese partners to make joint investments.Among many cooperation ways,private placement is becoming an important one.This Private Placement Memorandum is the legal text drafted by an American Company who sought for Chinese investment partners.This report falls into four chapters: The first chapter demonstrates the background,significance,requirements and preparations of the translation task.The second chapter introduces Peter Newmark's translation theory(including semantic translation and communicative translation),analyses the textual type of the source text,and explores the pragmatic values of the theory in this translation task.The third chapter is a case study of the translation of the Private Placement Memorandum in terms of lexical,syntactic and textual levels.Meanwhile,detailed thoughts and methods utilized during the translation process are also discussed in this chapter.The fourth chapter is a conclusion of the task,mainly aiming to display the experience I have gained and the lessons I have drawn from this translation activity.
