The present report is the summary of the English-Chinese translation of the two technical texts, given by Suzhou Shengsainuoer Sensor Technology Co.,Ltd.One is entitled SAR500—A High-Precision High-Stability Butterfly Gyroscope with North Seeking Capability and the other is called An Integrated Resonant Accelerometer Microsystem for Automotive Applications. In this report, the author(for convenience the word “author” will be replaced with “I” in the main body)focus mostly on the problems and difficulties encountered during the translation process.Meanwhile, some solutions are put forward accordingly, based on some relevant rules of Skopos theory. This whole report is divided into five chapters. The first chapter describes the background of the translation project and preparations the author did before settling down to business. Background is introduced in terms of its source and requirements.Translation preparations include looking for parallel texts, reading the materials and consulting some colleagues. The second chapter briefly introduces Skopos theory, including its historical development and three basic rules. The third one illustrates the original textual linguistic features in the light of lexicon and syntax. To summarize, the source text often uses technical term, polysemy, and abbreviation at the lexical level;long sentence, and attributive clause at the syntactic level;and grammatically, the present tense and passive voice are frequently employed. The fourth chapter cites some lexical and syntactical problems encountered, before the author demonstrates the techniques as solutions to these problems.Owing to different usages of words and different expressions of sentences between English and Chinese, the author employed literal translation, free translation, retaining and conversion to deal with the different word usages, and adjustment of word order, shifting from passive to active, division and omission were also adopted to handle different expressions of sentences. At the end of the report, the author makes a detailed summary of her major findings and what she has learnt from this translation practice.
