A Comparative Study On Political Texts’ English And French Translations From The Perspective Of Eco-Translatology

Political texts are the documents used for political activities to attain political objectives.They are essential for the international communities to understand China.The quality of multi-lingual translation directly affects China’s international discourse and communication capability.Now in China,different language translations of Chinese political texts released by official authorities have different distinctiveness in translation flexibility,in information loyalty,in native English expressions and in readers/audiences considerations.Therefore,the possibilities exist for different language translations to learn from each other.The thesis studies and compares the English translation and the French translation of a political text from the perspective of Eco-Translatology.The study case is the official English and French version of the 19th CPC National Report.The theories applied are the tri-dimensional conversion and the translator’s adaptation&selection under Eco-translatology.The study framework contains three dimensions,i.e.the language dimension,the culture dimension and the communication dimension.The thesis applies case study,comparative study and justifications in the analysis of typical examples and their dimensional differences.The thesis identifies the differences in the two translations,analyzes the translators’adaptation and selection,and finds out the merits and points to be improved in each version,so as to improve the translations of both.The thesis finds out that compared with the French version,the English version of the 19th CPC National Report,in the language dimension,understands the word connotations more accurately,chooses a more flexible translation strategy and structures sentences more logically,however,is also risky to undermine the loyalty.In the culture dimension,the English report selects to embrace the target language eco-system more appropriately.In the communication dimension,the English version tends to strike a chord with readers and audiences and fully takes different media communication into consideration.Meanwhile,the thesis also finds out that compared with the English version,the French version of the 19th CPC National Report,in the language dimension offers a more complete expression to the Chinese connotations,but is sometimes challenged by word-for-word translation problems.In the culture dimension,the French report adapts to the original texts more appropriately,and thus better promotes Chinese cultural images.In conclusion,it is possible that the English translation and the French translation of the 19th CPC National Report learn from each other for improvements in the language,culture and communication dimensions.Additionally,for each example,the thesis offers translation suggestions after analysis.Hopefully through these efforts,the thesis will contribute to the improvement of both translations.to political texts translations and even to the enrichment of Eco-translatology.
