Professor D?rte Andres from the School of Translation,Language and Culture of the University of Mainz,Germany,is well-known for her unique interdisciplinary research method as well as the extensive text analysis in her studies. This thesis reviews Professor Andres' main academic achievements. Her doctoral dissertation Consecutive Interpretation and Notation combines the consecutive interpreting experiment with the analysis of a dozen interpreters' memoirs to verify the multiple meanings and functions of notes during interpreting. Her habilitation thesis Interpreters in History and Literature refers to a wide range of historical texts and literary works, presents the collective image and psychological schema of fictional interpreters and also elucidates their causes and influences. This thesis concludes that Andres' studies have four main merits:They pursue an interdisciplinary research approach, emphasize the significance of interpreting pedagogy, scrutinizes the complex role of interpreters, and values literature research, especially memoir analysis. Her academic interests have covered the three indispensable and interconnected fields of interpreting, namely teaching, practices and researches. She encourages all the parties to optimize its internal functioning and raise their voices externally,so that interpreting as an organic whole can smoothly take shape, mature and expand.
