Reading plays an important status in the process of learning English for a long time.Students can gain information and improve their comprehensive abilities and professional skills by reading materials.However,most of teachers teach reading by traditional methods,it will generate results that students learn English reading singly while the reading effort is not optimistic.The occurrence of inquiry learning may change traditional teaching pattern.Schwab presented more operable teaching method than discovery method in speech of Teaching of Science as Enquiry in Harvard University.In this basis,based on the idea of inquiry learning that focuses on student-centeredness,independent inquiry and group cooperation to attract students' interest and cultivate their comprehensive abilities,the researcher does an action research to apply inquiry learning into reading teaching in senior high school.In order to verify the advantages of inquiry learning and checkout feasibility and availability of the learning pattern for English reading in senior high school,the researcher carries out experiment for three months.The study surrounds two research questions: What is the effect of the inquiry learning on English reading learning in senior high school? What are the changes of subjects' attitude towards English reading learning after the application of inquiry learning? The whole research process covers two rounds action research.The research subjects are students of Grade 2 in a senior high school in Shenyang.Every round action research includes identifying the problems,making the action plan,implementing the action plan and reflection and evaluation.Data of reading comprehension and tests are analyzed by SPSS 22.0.Inaddition,researcher interviews students to investigate their attitude and opinions for English reading.The research results indicate that this method is helpful for advancing students' reading abilities and comprehensive qualities.Students display positive attitude for the learning method.It increases students' interest for English reading and cultivates students' abilities of independent learning and innovation.
