As one of the taboo topics, death is often avoided by people, especially for children who have no idea about death under the “protection” of adults. However, death is an unavoidable experience for every individual and the destination of his life journey. It is the social trend at the present stage to let death step out of the mysterious castle and into the daily life of individuals, especially children.Correct cognition of death is conducive to the establishment of a rational outlook on life and death among children, and a positive attitude towards death is helpful in alleviating their negative emotions such as fear and anxiety about death.Let the children contact with death, face death by liberating them from the traditional concept of viewing death as a taboo,so as to respect and revere life.Belonging to a social science genre, the book Young People's Perspectives on End-of-Life is featured with professional vocabulary, complex sentence structure, clear logic and concise wording style. Therefore, the translator is required not only to have relevant professional knowledge, but also to ensure an accurate, rigorous and standard translation. There are three main difficulties in this translation practice, which are the translations of vocabulary, sentence structure and discourse of the original text.In terms of vocabulary analysis,it focuses on the translation of technical terms, lexical conversion and others. The analysis of sentence deals with the translation of long sentences and difficult sentences, sentence reorder while the text analysis with linguistic style and coherent expression. The purpose of this translation practice report is to discuss the problems and difficulties in translating social science texts into Chinese through a brief analysis of the three aspects, and to explore and summarize the translation strategies. The translation practice report is composed of four parts: the first part is a brief introduction of the translation task, including the background of this practice, the translation text and its author. The second part is the translation process, which depicts the preparation made by translator before translation, the general implementation of the whole process and the proofreading work after translation. The third part is case analysis, which interprets some typical problems and their respective translation solutions by presenting examples of vocabulary, sentence pattern and text. The last part is a conclusion of translator's understanding and experience gained from this translation practice.Though the translator has benefited a lot from this translation practice, there is still a lot to be perfected and only by persistent learning can the translation skills be improved.
