On Negotiation Of Social Energies In Yongzheng Emperor

“Social energy” is an important concept that new historians employed first,and also an important object of study for new historians.It refers to the power of the text or the artistic works and its ability to influence the reader.The term “negotiation” is another core concept in the new historicism.It designates the interaction between social energies,of which the main methods are “containment” and “subversion”.Under the premise of close-reading of literary text,this paper use the paradigm of new historicist critics to analyzes the negotiation of social energies in Yongzheng Emperor,for the merit of a more fully survey of its meaning.The paper consists of three parts.In introduction,researches of opposition opinions are surveyed.Chapter one: Analyzing the opposition of orders in social,cultural,temporal and spatial levels in this space of the text.On the social level,the opposition locates on the conflict between the benefits of the people and the benefits of the empire,and the opposition between bureaucracy and civilian politics,and still the opposition between power and merit.On the cultural level,the contradiction between the faithful conduct of many characters and their miserable end,and the opposition between the maintenance of ethics and the description of love affairs,yet also the opposition between the power of the system and the awakening individual,together with the intersection of the physical space and the imaginary space in the construction of space and time,and the opposition between the prolepsis and achrony.The second chapter analyzes the embodiment of social energy in the works,and demonstrates that there are many manifestations of social energy in the specific description of the novel by combining the requirements of social order and cultural order as well as the author's inclination and the reader's interest.Chapter three is dedicated to the analysis of the political and economical events,the influence of ethics on individuals and the temporal-spatial characteristics of the novel,to demonstrate how they are preset by the negotiation of social energies.Innovation lies in the comprehensive application of the ideas of new historicism and the employment of the paradigm of new historicist critics,which makes some contradictions in Yongzheng Emperor explainable and helps to discover the “sense of crisis” contained in the work.
