The Relationship Between Body Image And Selfie Behavior In Adolescent

Body image is the individual cognition of people who can acquaint themselves well,it is also the individual evaluation of people,especially the appearance and others' opinion and evaluation of body image,and how to treat oneself.There are quite mature theoretical and empirical studies in foreign countries to body image and the intervention of bad body image.In China,the research on body image is still less,but in recent years,the research on body image in China has been increasing gradually,such as the current research on the body characteristics of teenagers,eating disorders and so on.With the popularity of media,selfie behavior as a social and cultural phenomenon began to rise,perfect selfie will increase the confidence of social networking site users,the low level of body image can increase the self-negation of the individual,reduce self-esteem,cause depression,and even form eating disorder.Therefore,in this study,firstly,the relationship between body image and selfie behavior of adolescents was investigated by questionnaire method,our study selected537 adolescents,we use Selfie Behavior Scale to measure their selfie behaviors,at the same time,the Objectified Body Consciousness Scale was used to measure the body evaluation of the subjects,the Satisfaction and Dissatisfaction with Body Parts Scale was used to measure the body satisfaction of the subjects,and the Upward Physical Appearance Comparison Scale and Downward Physical Appearance Comparison Scale were used to measure the appearance comparison of the subjects.The results showed that the selfie behavior of girls was significantly higher than boys.For girls,there was a significant positive correlation between physical surveillance and selfie behavior,while for boys,there was no significant correlation between physical surveillance and selfie behavior.Further,regression analysis showed that physical surveillance could predict the selfie behavior of girls significantly.Mediation analysis shows that physical surveillance plays full mediation between upward physical appearance comparison and selfie behavior.Study 2 explores the relationship between body image and selfie according to experiments.58 girls were randomly divided into experimental group and control group.The experimental group took a selfie,the control group took a mug photo and posted on social media,then completed the dot-probe task containing body stimulation.The resultsshowed that there was no significant difference between the experimental group and the control group in emotional and body satisfaction after selfie,compared with the control group,the experimental group's attention bias to body-related stimuli was not significant.This study found that there was gender difference in selfie,and the frequency of selfie in girls was significantly higher than boys.Girls' selfie behavior is mainly influenced by physical surveillance in objectification,and selfie may be a means of physical surveillance.However,experimental studies have shown that selfie behavior does not affect the body image of girls,and does not cause attention bias to body-related stimuli.The results of this study are consistent with the objectifying theory.
