Calderon's Life is a Dream told such a story: The prince Segismundo was born with an enormous disaster,in which her mother died.King Basilio predicted that the prince might kill his father,and imprisoned him into the tower.He forged a dream to test if his son could succeed the throne.However,the people found the secret and overthrew the rule of the king.Finally,Basilio succumbed to Segismundo,the father and the son reconciled.Although Segismundo mastered the sovereignity,he still thought that he was in dream.In the classical period,the relationship between the king and the individual presented as the relationship between father and son in Roman Ages.However,in the Renaissance,with the growth of modern subject,the relationship led by kinship become fragile.On one hand,the strengthening of the monarch did not bring glory and authority,but confused the king.On the other hand,the prince and the people were conscious of themselves,and struggled for the sovereignity with the king.At the turning point,the sovereignity could not separate itself from the traditional monarch system.As a result,although the king was overthrown,people did not have their chance to voice themselves.While the kingdom changed its leader,the system still stay alive.However,Segismundo,who still considered himself in the dream,was not the real king of the empty throne.This state can be explained by Derrida's theory of “la différance”: Mesía was slow to appear,and the real sovereign was on the road.In the era of Calderón,the problem of Sovereignty became a perpetual enigma,an ambivalence between “habere” and “no”.
