Liang Kai,who inherits the painting tradition of the Northern Song Dynasty and initiates the new style of freehand and even literati painting,is an important pioneer of Chinese freehand figure painting and an innovative painter in the history of Chinese painting. He is naturally free and uninhibited and indifferent to fame and fortune. His paintings don't stick to one pattern and express feelings directly, and the painting style of cutting brushwork and splashing ink is refreshing to the men of his time, opening up a new path for the development of Chinese figure paintings and having a profound influence on the creation of later freehand paintings. The main body of the thesis consists of three parts. The first part summarizes Liang Kai's paintings, which are mainly about freehand figure paintings, and introduces Liang Kai's life stories and his artistic influence. And the overall aesthetic style and interest of his freehand figure paintings are revealed in the course of the overall review of Liang Kai and his works. The second part mainly analyzes the characters of Liang Kai's freehand figure paintings and summarizes three characteristics:first, the painting image has a meaningful deformation compared with the object;second, the painting image presents a concise style;third, according to the specific analysis of Liang Kai's freehand figure paintings, his painting images are of structural tension. The third part combines Liang Kai's freehand figure paintings to explore the charm of the brush-and-ink of Chinese paintings:first, this paper analyzes the multi-layered meaning of the concept of"brush-and-ink"and discusses the evaluation criteria of brush-and-ink in paintings;second,it elucidates the expressive force of brush-and-ink in paintings from two aspects:expressing the object and conveying the painter's subjective thoughts;finally, this paper points out that the form of brush-and-ink in the freehand paintings has the characteristic of soul and emotion and is a representation system with rich connotation.Freehand brushwork is the national characteristic of Chinese traditional art,and the brush-and-ink is the unique form of expression of Chinese painting and calligraphy.Through the study of Liang Kai's freehand figure paintings, the common artistic characteristics of Chinese freehand paintings are sorted out,and the unique expressive force and implication of brush-and-ink are discussed, which is of great significance and value for Chinese people in the era of globalization to form a sense of cultural self-confidence.
