As one of the most influential composers in Baroque period,Handel played an important role in the development of Oratorio in Baroque period.The Messiah is a successful work of Handel in his transition from opera to oratorio.Its lyrics are divided into three parts in English.It sings repeatedly up and down.Through the change of tone,it realizes progressive fluctuation between melody and rhythm.It also creates a new creative form of English oratorio while expressing strong religious feeling in music.This paper consists of three parts.The first part introduces the development of Oratorio in Baroque period and the creation of Hendel's vocal music works,focusing on a brief introduction of Hendel's oratorio creation in this period.In the second part,taking "People Exploring in the Darkness" as an example,the overall musical features of "Messiah" are summarized from the perspective of musical structure,music and Lyric features.The third part makes a detailed analysis of the control of breath,the flexible use of singing skills,the unification of timbre effect,the grasp of singing style,the treatment of rhythm and decorative tone,etc.by combining its own singing experience with relevant references,so as to explore the singing characteristics of Hendel's oratory Messiah from multiple perspectives and levels,so as to help the singers.In the actual singing process,problems such as insufficient understanding of music style,unstable control of breath,inconsistent timbre,rough performance style and so on,which affect the overall effect of music,are solved.
