The most important contribution of Polysystem theory to literary translation is that it introduces a systematic and relational perspective for translators.Realistic comic novels have special literary and social characteristics. On the one hand, they have humorous effect of comic novels. On the other hand, they have some certain social functions. In order to better convey the characteristics of realistic comic novels,Polysystem theory can give translators some guidance from the perspective of a large system where the text is positioned,as well as a small system of the text itself. This thesis takes the translation of Marina Lewycka's comic novel The Lubetkin Legacy as a case study to explore the role of the Polysystem theory in conveying the characteristics of realistic comic novels from a systematic and relational perspective.Such a perspective is reflected both in the translation of external elements in the large social system, such as history and culture, and in the translation of elements within the small system of the text, such as fluency, logic, and aesthetics. |
