At present, most studies on "diet and identity" focus on the fields of anthropology and human geography, which is a relatively new topic in the field of communication This study selects the food documentary once upon a bite as the case, and takes the media space theory of media geography as the research path to discuss the spatial presentation and audience identification of this documentary. The paper conducts text analysis and discourse analysis on the documentary once upon a bite, and makes non-participatory observation on the core broadcast platform Tencent video and Douban film platform of once upon a bite. The main research direction of this study is,how can food cohesive national identity become possible? What role does the media play in highlighting the locality and differentiating the construction of other countries? The study found that spatial representation in the media is one of the important ways we know and perceive the world. In the spatial presentation of documentaries, architecture, food, dialects, and even the appearance of characters are all important signs of locality. The media's emphasis on locality and shaping has greatly strengthened people's local identity. The answer to the question "Where am I" is actually answering the question "Who am I".This dependence on the place is based on the "authenticy" of the media shooting, which is closely related to the current social changes and rapid development of China. In addition, people's identity has inherent multiplicity.Local boundaries can be extended continuously until they are consistent with national boundaries, providing strong support for national identity. On the one hand,it comes from the construction of regional differences with other countries.Only when the local diet is placed in the global position and faced with the cultural invasion of "others",can the differences of local cultures within a country be ignored. In other words,it is precisely because of the appearance of other countries, the reverse makes "we" possible--the negation of the diet of other countries turns into the superiority of our own culture. On the other hand,it is also because the media has built a common symbolic field for people. While highlighting the place, the media has removed its locality to the greatest extent so that all people can watch and participate in it.This symbolic realm includes a history of communal eating utensils,a celebratory scene that captures contemporary rural Spaces, and a display of the spatial wonders of modern technology. In a word, although there is competition for local cultural prestige and cultural significance within the nation-state,the symbol of the Chinese national community can cover and condense various meanings that may not be in harmony with each other in comparison with the "other"culture. Therefore, the author tries to have a dialogue with the concept of "vanishing region" proposed by merowitz, and thinks that electronic media may weaken local and local identity, but may also be an important force in shaping local sense, and through highlighting local sense, consolidate local identity and national identity,so as to cope with the erosion of future globalization.
