Language,as the carrier and media of culture,is the external manifestation of culture.A specific national culture inevitably contains thousands of abstract language systems.In the process of cultural development and progress,corresponding languages will inevitably develop to different degrees.Language and culture are interdependent,interactional and common development.It can be said that language learning and mastery,to a large extent,is also the understanding and mastery of a national culture.As the main basis of teachers' teaching and the main source of students' acquisition of knowledge,the content of textbooks has a direct impact on teachers' teaching and students' learning.It can be said that the selection and arrangement of textbook content points out the direction for teachers' teaching and students' learning,and plays a guiding role in the whole classroom teaching activities.At the same time,"English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools(2017 Edition)" also clearly points out: "The English curriculum for senior high schools should focus on moral education,ability,foundation and innovation.In the process of developing students' language ability,it should help students learn,understand and appreciate excellent Chinese and foreign cultures,cultivate Chinese feelings,strengthen cultural confidence,expand international horizons and increase their ability.Enter international understanding." Based on this,this study takes the high school English textbooks published by PEP as the research object.By comparing the cultural knowledge contained in the 2003 and 2007 editions of the textbooks and their changes,it finds out the development trend.Finally,based on the new curriculum standard of the 2017 edition,this paper explores the deficiencies in the presentation of cultural knowledge in the 2007 edition of textbooks in order to provide some theoretical and data reference for the improvement and improvement of textbooks,the connotative development of English teaching in senior high schools and the cultivation of students' cultural self-confidence.By consulting relevant literature,this paper clearly defines the concepts of culture,Chinese culture,western culture and cultural classification.Then,according to the needs of the article,it combs the relevant theories of cross-cultural comparison,textbook evaluation and contrastive linguistics.Then,by comparing the overall analysis,cultural types and cultural categories of the cultural awareness goals in the 2003 edition of English textbooks and the 2007 edition of English textbooks,this paper explores the differences in the presentation of cultural content between the two editions of English textbooks.Finally,through statistics and comparative analysis of teaching materials,this paper explores the shortcomings in the 2007 edition of English textbooks and their improvement measures.The results showed that:1.The 2007 edition is superior to the 2003 edition in the way of cultural presentation and the quality of cultural content.2.The 2007 edition of the textbook pays more attention to the ability of students to comprehensively use cultural knowledge,which is conducive to the cultivation of students' cross-cultural communication awareness.3.The 2007 edition of the textbook is more innovative in the selection of cultural teaching materials and more in line with students' physiological and psychological characteristics.However,the 2007 edition of the textbook also has the following shortcomings:1.The setting of cultural content is not reasonable enough.2.The textbooks lack the cultural connotations of common English and proverbs,the comparison between English and Chinese proverbs and the introduction of celebrities and history of English-speaking countries.3.The proportion of knowledge culture in textbooks far exceeds that of communicative culture,which does not meet the requirements of the new curriculum standard for cultural introduction.4.The presentation of mother tongue cultural content is insufficient and lacks systematisms.The research value of this study is that by comparing the 2003 and 2007 editions of textbooks,the cultural content of the two editions of textbooks is presented through data statistics,thus showing the advantages and disadvantages of the 2007 edition of textbooks more clearly.At the end of this study,through the problems and shortcomings found,the author puts forward some suggestions for textbook compilers and English teachers,in order to provide a feasible theoretical and data reference for the advent of better versions of textbooks.
