With the rapid development of internet plus and information technology,China has become increasingly connected with the rest of the world.Therefore,China’s civil society attaches great importance to the English education.China is a country of agriculture,learning English well is an important way for rural students to have more connections with the other countries.However,in rural high schools,teachers tend to use traditional teaching mode,such as explaining words,grammar,translating passages,which can not only decrease the students’ reading scores but also decrease students’ interests in English reading.The purpose of this research is to see if it is effective to improve students’ critical thinking ability,reading ability and arouse their English reading interests by using a series of critical reading mode of training.The experiment was carried out by selecting 95 Junior Three students from two general classes in Longhai No.2 High School for comparison.One class was randomly chosen as the experimental class adopting critical thinking-oriented teaching of English reading and the other class was as the control class adopting traditional English teaching mode.During a semester’s experiment,the author analyzed the questionnaire,reading test volume,and interview and so on,spss 19.0 was used in this research to see if it is effective for the critical thinking-oriented teaching of English reading.We analyzed the experimental results by using experimental evaluation tools.The results show that students have developed their critical thinking ability.Students have increased their interests of English reading and the scores of English are also greatly improved.Therefore,I believe that the critical teaching model can be provided for other teachers and continue to practice.
