With the deepening of international economic and trade exchanges,cultural exchanges have also taken on a prosperous trend.Chinese culture has a time-honored history,in which Sorcery culture occupied an important position in ancient times and even in the early period of feudal society,especially in the area of ancient Chongqing.Wuxi County,which borders Chongqing and connects Shaanxi and Hubei provinces,was a major salt producing region in ancient times.As a part of the ancient territory of Wuxian Kingdom,Wuxi was a cradle of Sorcery culture which is still persisting today.Since the beginning of the twenty-one century,the county government has invested vigorously in the cultural tourism centering on Sorcery culture,and has successively established Sorcery Museum and a tourist area of Ancient Ningchang Town,which have attracted a large number of tourists from home and abroad.This translation practice report,with its source material abridged from series report on Sorcery culture provided by Wuxi Publicity Department,is aimed at,through translating relevant texts of Sorcery culture,probing the translation skills and analyzing the difficulties in the translation of this type of text so as to present a clear and smooth translation to the target readers about the development of Sorcery culture,its embodiment and status quo in Wuxi people's life and enable tourists from abroad to have a better understanding of Sorcery culture in Wuxi so that they can better enjoy their visit there.Meanwhile,it is the writer's hope to make a little contribution to the spreading of Sorcery culture through the translation.The selected material for the translation practice contains a large number of terms of Sorcery culture,local dialects,names of ancient documents,classic Chinese words and sentence patterns,colloquial sayings,and long and difficult sentences.During the process of translation,the translator(also the writer of this report),guided by the strategy of domestication,employed different translation skills such as amplification,annotation,substitution,paraphrase,division,combination,etc.to solve the problems encountered in the translation,with the aim of providing the target readers with coherent and smooth as well as faithful translation so as to achieve cultural exchange in a real sense.Through the translation practice,the writer has realized her scant background knowledge of Sorcery culture,limited expression in English,deficient wording and phrasing in Chinese,all of which need to be enhanced through her introspection in repeated practices as well as relentless efforts to improve herself in both cultural and language competence.Meanwhile,it is also the writer's hope that this translation practice report can provide some references for the future translation of other cultures,as well as Sorcery culture.
