Research On The Ryukyu Cognition And Assimilation Of Chinese Culture

In 1372 the Kingdom of Ryukyu and China officially established formal diplomatic relations,from when all levels of Ryukyu began to be exposed to Chinese culture.The Ryukyuan soon realized the advanced nature of Chinese culture in aspects such as thoughts,ideas,science,technology and religions.Hence Chinese culture was spread through both governmental and civil channels and was actively accepted and assimilated during the contact between Ryukyu and China that lasted for over 500 years.However,in the process Chinese culture was not only blindly copied and absorbed,but also alienated according to the Ryukyuan social circumstance and applied to various fields with great flexibility.In this article,the Ryukyuan insights of Chinese culture is chosen to be an entry point,the Ryukyuan's cognition of Chinese culture is systemically teased and the major pathways of culture transmission are explored in-depth.Meanwhile,the autonomy of the selective absorption and alienation revealed in the process of Ryukyuan assimilation of Chinese culture is elaborated and its referential significance for the present is explored.
