Based on the theory of "eight methods and four knowledge" in the painting of a hill by Zou Yigui,a painter in the qing dynasty,this paper analyzes the works of meticulous flower-and-bird painting in the song dynasty.The purpose of this paper is to study whether the painters applied the "eight methods and four knowledge" techniques in their works during the song dynasty when meticulous flower-and-bird painting reached its peak.This paper is divided into three parts.The first part briefly introduces the theory of "eight methods and four knowledge" and the analysis of each method.The second part discusses how each of the "eight methods and four understandings" is embodied in the works of the song painters,and takes the painters cui bai and zhao ji as examples to analyze how to comprehensively apply the theory of "eight methods and four understandings" in the works of the most representative painters in the song dynasty.The third part is the inspiration of "eight methods and four knowledge" to my meticulous flower-and-bird painting creation.This paper adopts the methods of literature research,case study and image analysis to analyze the flower-and-bird painting works of the song dynasty,and the conclusions obtained enrich the research on the field of "eight methods and four understandings".My deep understanding of the theory of "eight methods and four knowns" is combined with my own painting creation,which is conducive to the creation of meticulous flower-and-bird painting in the future.
