A Study Of Images In Bob Dylan’s Poetry

Bob Dylan is an American Jewish ballad artist.The music created by Bob Dylan is considered non-literary in traditional literary concepts.But in October 2016,Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize for Literature surprisingly.After that,Bob Dylan was not only regarded as a musician,but also as a poet.As an important element of poetry,image is often the focus of poetry criticism and research.Bob Dylan’s poems are good at creating images and expressing feelings with images.This paper takes the image in Bob Dylan’s poetry as the object of study,and studies its types,characteristics,cultural connotations and aesthetic implications.The paper is divided into four parts:The first part studies the legend and necessity of Bob Dylan from a rock musician to Nobel Prize winner,and the relationship between Bob’s legendary life and his creation.Bob Dylan,a Romantic bard,has always been on the road as his normal life.It is precisely because of this "always on the road" life that the poet has the opportunity to enjoy the mountains and rivers of the United States,to pass through various towns,to meet different races,to meet different people.All these enriched the poet’s imagination and gave him innumerable creative inspiration.So Bob Dylan’s poetry images are varied,all-inclusive and meaningful.The second part studies the types of Bob Dylan’s poetry images.This paper divides them into three groups: natural image,social image and character image.Natural image chooses "wind","rain","stone","sand" and social image chooses "road" and "dam"."Town" and other characters choose "vagrant","groom" and "black" to study their aesthetic characteristics and cultural connotations.The third part studies the structural art of Bob Dylan’s poetry image,and holds that the structure and presentation of Bob Dylan’s poetry image are pluralistic,mainly consisting of orderly combination and disorderly combination,which are full of philosophical reason.The fourth part focuses on the value pursuit of Bob Dylan’s poetry image,which embodies the value pursuit of "seeking truth","seeking good" and "seeking beauty".From the analysis of the image of Bob Dylan’s poetry,we can have a deeper understanding of Bob Dylan’s poetry and better understand the aesthetic characteristics and cultural connotation of Bob Dylan’s poetry.
