As traditional classroom teaching begins to fail in meeting students' learning needs,Web-based autonomous learning platforms,with their abundant learning materials,have become a major support and complement to classroom learning.However,it remains unanswered whether Web-based autonomous learning contributes to improving students' learning ability or scores and which kind of learning methods affect students' scores in a good way directly or indirectly.Students' English reading ability is an important predictor of their language proficiency and at the same time a major concern of Middle School English teaching.Thus,the current research investigates the relation between different learning methods and students' reading test scores with an aim to provide evidence-based and effective suggestions to students' Web-based autonomous learning.The research firstly defines the concept of autonomous learning and conducts a literature review of research home and abroad.Secondly,the author,with the 142 students from Jincai Experimental Middle School as the subjects,applies both quantitative and qualitative methods to explore the relation between students' Web-based autonomous learning and English reading ability and summarizes,through the collection and analysis of data(spss17.0),junior high school students' learning methods and features of Web-based learning.Finally,according to the results of this research,the author proposes four suggestions for junior high school students on how to make good use of Web-based autonomous learning.It is found that Web-based autonomous learning has positive impacts on junior high school students' English learning ability.Through the analysis of quantitative and qualitative study,eight learning methods are summarized.Besides,three features of Web-based autonomous learning are found: self-motivated,open-ended,and interactive.According to the interview,it is found that student's English reading scores are positively related to their Web-based autonomous learning ability.Based on the interviewees' opinions and suggestions,the conclusion is drawn that Web-based autonomous learning has positive impacts on students English reading scores.
