Arif Derek is a famous postcolonial theorist,leftist,historian and sinologist in the United States.He delved into the revolutionary history of modern China and drew some inspirations about postcolonial issues.In applying these revelations to postcolonial studies,he first criticized the tendency of traditional postcolonial theory to misunderstand and non-historical studies of history,expose the inequality hidden in it,and put forward the viewpoint of postcolonialization.Clearly opposed to conceptualization and abstraction in the process of historical and literary studies.After revealing the true face of globalization and the essence of hegemonism,he examined the issues of class,geography,intellectual identity and other issues related to globalization theory and proposed solutions.He is concerned with the issue of localized literature construction and postcolonial intellectual identity and literary writing.Finally,he reapplied the conclusions to contemporary China and made some useful suggestions for the development and outlet of Chinese and Chinese literature.This article takes Derek's postcolonial literary theory as the research object,and reflects on its innovation and limitations on the basis of combing and expounding its literary ideas and viewpoints.This paper mainly studies Derek's postcolonial literary theory from seven aspects.The first part is the introduction,including the research significance and the research status at home and abroad.Foreign studies on Derek's postcolonial literary theory mainly focus on the third world criticism and postcolonial discourse;domestic research is divided into four aspects: historical context,globalization theory,Marxist position and identity.The second part is the source of thought of Derek's postcolonial literary theory.Based on a brief account of Derek's growth experience,this paper analyzes his theory from five aspects: Marxism,Gramsci's cultural hegemony,Foucault's power discourse,Jameson's third world cultural studies and postcolonial theory.Background and thought resources.The five theorists,Fanon,Said,Spivak,Homi Baba,and Ahammad in postcolonial theory,have an important influence on the formation of Derek'sthought.The third part is the methodology principle of Derek's postcolonial literary theory.This article begins with a review of the history of Chinese Marxism and analyzes the reasons why Derek adhered to the post-colonial history.The fourth and fifth parts are the main content of Derek's postcolonial literary theory,which is the main part of this article.The fourth part expounds Derek's revelation of the true purpose of globalization and his analysis and reflection on the problems of third world literature,regional consciousness and class identity,reconstruction of localized literature and contemporary Marxism.The fifth part expounds Derek's concern about the postcolonial intellectual group,discusses it from identity,and uses Chinese intellectuals and Chinese writers as examples to map the entire postcolonial intellectual group.The sixth part is the evaluation of the significance of Derek's postcolonial literary theory,including the theoretical value and limitations of his literary theory,his position in the history of postcolonial literary theory and his enlightenment to Chinese literature.The seventh part is the conclusion.
