The report is based on the interpreter's interpreting practice for Shanghai Cooperation Organization(SCO)Qingdao Summit in 2018 as a telephone interpreter for 12345 public service hotline of Qingdao. This project, organized by Global Tone Communication Technology Co.,lasted for about 2 months, from May to June,2018.The interpreter used the Effort Models to guide her interpreting practice.Put forward by Daniel Gile, this theory stresses the importance of effort allocation during interpreting. In consecutive interpreting, interpreters' effort generally goes to listening and analysis,note-taking,short-term memory, and production. They must make sure that the total effort required by the interpreting wouldn't go beyond their ability.Using this model, interpreters can better identify possible difficulties and decide which part may need extra attention in advance, such as listening and analysis,note-taking,short-term memory, production or else. After identifying priority in interpreting, they can choose appropriate strategies to cope with different interpreting tasks.Following these steps, the interpreter successfully completed the telephone interpreting project for SCO Qingdao Summit. This report is divided into four chapters.Chapter One gives a brief description to the interpreter's interpreting task, starting from its background to the process, together with challenges faced by the interpreter during the process.Chapter Two introduces Daniel Gile's Effort Models, including its development, components, and overall evaluation.Chapter Three is case analysis. It provides a detailed analysis of this interpreting task according to the effort mentioned in the Effort Models, which are listening and analysis,note-taking,short-term memory, and production. In Chapter Four, the interpreter provides her self-reflection in pre-interpretation preparation, psychological preparation and regular review, then she also gives suggestions on listening,note-taking,theoretical guidance and language proficiency.
