The material for this simulated interpreting practice is selected from the Sanctions against North Korea’s nuclear-weapons programme hosted by the UN Security Council on August 5,2017.The meeting content is mainly about the harm of the nuclear experiment to the Korean people, the harm to the international community, and the denuclearization measures should be taken correspondingly, etc. The speakers comes from different countries including Egypt, the United States,Britain,France,Ukraine,China and other countries. The speakers from Egypt,France, and Ukraine speak with very strong regional accent, and those from the United States,Britain and other countries speak very fast. The different accent and the fast speed of the speakers bring great difficulty to the interpreter,so the interpreter uses Gile’s Effort mode to help her better distribute her energy.Meanwhile, the meeting involves a lot of political and chemical proper nouns, such as Non-proliferation,Humanitarian exemption clause which also pose a great challenge to the interpreter and the interpreter has to spare more efforts on the pre-interpreting preparation in this aspect. After this interpreting practice, the following two conclusions have been drawn.Firstly, the interpreter should pay special attention to the allocation of energy when interpreting, especially when a large number of speakers are involved.Secondly,pre-interpreting preparations must be specific. For example, this nuclear weapon related hearing involves many intermediate level proper nouns,if the interpreter doesn’t prepare it beforehand,it would be impossible to accomplish the task. What’s more, through this practice, the author also finds her own deficiencies in note-taking,speaking speed and conciseness of the language. In the future, the interpreter should make even more practice in these aspects.
