Landscape Into Poetry—John Clare’s Nature Writing

John Clare（1793-1864）,was a peasant poet in English Romanticism Era.In spite of his unnoticed,poor life,he wrote lots of nature poems,which recorded working in the field,various animals,change of seasons,and even any tiny flower in nature to love and eulogize.His nature poems present unprecedented intimacy and dearest love for nature.There are many researches on the his nature writing abroad and home,but little from the aesthetic point of view systematically on his nature writing.The thesis aims to delineate the aesthetic process how landscape into poetry in the nature writing of Clare.According to the assumption,the paper tries to set his nature writing into three dimensions:Pastoral Poetry,“Pictura Poesis”,and nature aesthetic philosophy.Since18^th,19^thh century the popularity of picturesque landscape,people break through the durance of middle age,beginning to appreciate nature.Meantime,due to the natural cohesion with nature,Clare obtains the potential to write landscape into poetry.By comparison with the traditional pastoral poetry,Clare inherits the conception of Acadian homeland,golden age of Virgil,and Georgics.Besides,the paper reveals the creation of Clare,including the particularity of his identity,the dearest and equal love for nature,the authentic description of tension in nature and the lively direct descriptive method.The discussion of Pictura Poesis is popular since Horace among many poets.The thesis aims to represent his painting mind in poetry:unique view of space,observing vision,words-painting,description of mutation and instantaneous sketch,and the texture of water-color painting and impressionism.Nature aesthetic philosophy tries to interpret the aesthetic process of how landscape from external cognition object to inner aesthetic object,and through inner aesthetic mechanism into poetry.The three dimensions represent the linear connection.The dimension of Pastoral Poetry offers the true aesthetic materials,the dimension of Pictura Poesis deals with the aesthetic materials through the painting viewpoint.Then the dimension of nature aesthetic philosophy systematically interprets the aesthetic process of landscape into poetry.By analyzing the aesthetic course of his nature poems,the paper gives a new interpretation on the studies of Clare in an extent.And the representation of Clare‘s foresight about the conception of nature will bring relatively reflections in thinking of the relationship between literature and environment for future readers.
