Application Of “MT+PE” Model In Legal Translation

With the help of artificial intelligence technology,the revolution of machine translation is just at the corner.Since 2014,machine translation(MT)based on neural network translation technology has changed the way people work in an increasingly wide range of fields,and has also caused substantial changes in translation work.At the same time,the translation community has always emphasized the importance of“Post-Editing(PE)” for the drawbacks of machine translation.However,with the increasing quality of machine translation,the post-translation editing has presented new challenges to translators.Although the “MT + PE" mode is not a new attempt,it is still worth exploring.In general,machine translation is mostly applicable to non-literary text,such as product descriptions,user manuals,etc.The case of this article is the Chinese-English translation project of a cooperation agreement completed during the internship of the author.The cooperation agreement represents general characteristics as a legal and contract text,with a number of specialized terms and a unique writing style.The author used “MT+PE” mode to finish its translation.Therefore,the article takes this project as an example to explore the applicability of MT in legal texts with high professionalism,logic and unique style,summarizes the advantages and limitations of MT in the project,and puts forward corresponding PE solutions for the limitations.
