Jewish-American writer Saul bellow occupies an important position in the history of world literature.Bellow wrote extensively throughout his life,winning the Nobel Prize for literature in 1976 for "a work that blends human understanding with a sophisticated analysis of contemporary culture." Bellow's creation has been widely concerned and studied by scholars at home and abroad.Many classic female images were created in bellow's novels.These female images with wives or lovers have more or less relationship with bellow's love and marriage experience,which is a series of images worthy of study in bellow's novels.Therefore,this paper takes Bellow's Herzog,Dangling Man,Humboldt's Gift,Seize the Day,December of the Dean,More Die of Heartbreak,Ravelstein,as the research objects,and studies the images of wives and lovers in bellow's novels through close reading of the texts.In Bellow's novels,we can find the shadow of his five marriages and the objects of his love and marriage.In his novels,Bellow vividly reproduced the different objects of his love and marriage.There are different types of wives and lovers in Bellow's works.Under the influence of his disharmonious marriage,wives or lovers in Bellow's works can be roughly divided into two extreme types: demon type and submissive type.Through delicate characterization,Bellow expresses the characters of these women,such as the devil and submissive.Exploring the psychology,speech and action of these women,we can find Bellow's view on women.As a Jewish writer,bellow was deeply influenced by Jewish culture.Jews have strong family values and see wives as the key to family harmony.Influenced by traditional culture,Bellow actively advocated gender harmony,respect for women and desire for marriage with gender equality.
