The Belt and Road Initiative runs through the continents of Asia,Europe and Africa, linking 65 countries.Since the initiative being put forward, the number of international students is raising sharply. It is reported that 442,773 international students from 205 countries and regions have been studying in China in 2016,which increases by 11.35 percent compared with 2015.China has become a country that attracts more and more international students. Therefore,it is quite necessary to study cross-cultural adaptation of international students in order to help them adapt well in China. At present, researches of cross-cultural adaptation in China are mainly one-dimensional,researches combining psychological adjustment and cultural adaptation are few.In this thesis, the revised Zung self-rating Depression Scale and Sociocultural Adaptation Scale have been adopted to investigate 230 international students of several universities in Hunan province which covers the shortage of previous researches. The collected data have been analyzed by SPSS 22.0 and the demographics and motivation impact on psychological adjustment and sociocultural adaptation of international students have been discussed. The findings are presented as follows:(1)International students adapt well psychologically and socioculturally. There is no significant difference on the level of gender, but there is a significant difference on the level of age, education, cultural distance, length of stay and Chinese level.(2)There is no significant correlation between motivation and psychological adjustment;there is a negative correlation between motivation and sociocultural adaptation. In other words, stronger motivation predicts fewer psychological and sociocultural difficulties.(3)There are five factors in Sociocultural Adaptation Scale:Living environment,Problem solving,Study,Intercultural interaction and Cultural awareness.Length of stay has a negative prediction on' Living environment and Problem solving;age, length of stay and motivation have a negative prediction on Study;cultural distance and Chinese level have a negative prediction on Intercultural adaptation;education and motivation have a negative prediction on Cultural awareness.(4)There is a positive correlation between psychological adjustment and sociocultural adaptation. In other words, international students who adapt better in sociocultural adaptation have less psychological difficulties. The findings above give some enlightenments to Chinese education and administration of international students in universities.
