Researching Bronze Sword In Wu Yue Area In The Double Zhou Dynasty

Bronze swords in the Wu Yue Area have obvious regional features.Research objects of this thesis are bronze swords collected in the Wu Yue Area and the surrounding areas,as well as swords of typical Wu and Yue features collected in other areas.in this thesis,features of bronze swords of Wu Yue Area are discussed in aspects of shaping and forming analysis also sequence evolution.With the forming technology,mineral materials from Wu Yue Area and the surrounding areas,excellence of Wu Yue swords has been discussed.Through observing bronze swords' flowing inside and outside Wu Yue Area,communication and interplay of Wu Yue Area and other regions have been discussed.The thesis has been divided into five chapters.The fIrst chapter is introduction about the research range,Wu Yue Area in the Double Zhou Dynasty,as well as part of surrounding regions of relatively consistent culture property;about research objects,bronze swords collected from the Wu Yue Area and surrounding areas.The second chapter is classifying bronze swords from Wu Yue Area,with information of bronze swords from Wu Yue Area.The bronze swords have been classified into A-Type Door Ear Sword,B-Type Narrow Grid Sword,C-Type Thick Grid Sword,D-Type Fiat Stem Sword without Grid or Head,and other scarce types.Through the stage-division of the data of bronze swords unearthed in Wu and Yue area and the comparison of the evolution sequence and evolution relationship of Various types of swords,It is confirmed that the earliest discovery date of the A-Type Door Ear Swords Is the late Shang Dynasty,the earliest discoVery date of the C-Type Thick Grid Swords is the Shang and Zhou Dynasties,and they were all unearthed or collected in the Zhejiang area.Therefore,it is judged that the earliest source of the A-Type Door Ear Swords and the C-Type Thick Grid Swords is in the Zhejiang area.The B-Type Narrow Grid Swords first emerged in the middle and late Western Zhou Dynasty and should be inherited from the A-type swords.The D-Type Flat Stem Sword wIthout Grid or Head swords originated from the Central Plains area and absorbed the factors of the bronze swords in the Wu and Yue area in its development.in Chapter III,foundry technology and material sources of bronze swords in Wu Yue Area have been analyzed.It has been discussed in this chapter that reasons for Wu Yue bronze swords' excellence are superb smelting and casting technology and rich material sources.In Chapter IV,through analyzing bronzeswords and other weapons in Wu Yue Area,with the then forms of bronze swords,it can be discovered that wars have promoted development of bronze swords,also bronze swords' development has promoted changing of war forms.In Chapter V,by reviewing bronze sword collecting places,bronze swords' flow has been known,and their influence inside and outside Wu Yue Area has been discussed.The Chapter VI is the conclusion.Through analyzing shapes and forms as well as sequence evolving,it has been confirmed that A-Type Door Ear Sword,B-Type Narrow Grid Sword,C-Type Thick Grid Sword are all autonomously developed in Wu Yue Area.A-Type Door Ear Sword and early forms of C-Type Thick Grid Sword are born in Zhejiang Province belonging to Yue Nationality,transferred to the north from the south.Besides,there are superb smelting and casting technology and rich mine sources in Shang and Zhou Dynasty in Wu Yue Area.The paper concludes that the bronze swords in the Wu and Yue area were developed autonomously in the Western Zhou Dynasty,the Zhejiang area should be one of the earliest regions for smelting and casting bronze swords,the bronze sword of the State of Yue was cast earlier than that of the State of Wu and its casting technology was superior to or on a par with the State of Wu,and they jointly created the Wu-Yue style bronze swords popular among the states in the Eastern Zhou Dynasty.
