In I.A.Richards’ literary criticism theory system,The Principles of Literary Criticism is a book that has been inherited from the past.Before that,his literary thoughts only began to take shape until the publication of this book.It marks the formal formation of his literary theory.Richards has visited China six times.He has used teaching and basic English throughout his life to serve as a bridge for Chinese and Western cultural communication.Richards’ work has spread in China since the 1930 s,and the most influential one is his masterpiece,The Principles of Literary Criticism.The academic circles have fully affirmed the theoretical value of The Principles of Literary Criticism.and also recognized the status quo that The Principles of Literary Criticism is widely accepted in China.This article takes the acceptance of the Principles of Literary Criticism in China as the research object.After analyzing and interpreting the core content of the book Principles of Literary Criticism,it sorts out the acceptance of the Principles of Literary Criticism in China.On this basis,it explains the academic circles creative Interpretation of the Principles of Literary Criticism.And further reflect on the understanding bias in the academic world in accepting the Principles of Literary Criticism.The introduction part is a brief overview of the relationship between Richards and China,and the domestic academic community’s research status on Richards and the Principles of Literary Criticism in China.On the basis of summarizing the existing research situation,put forward the significance and value of the problem and research.The first chapter is an overview of the core content of the Principles of Literary Criticism.It mainly explains the aesthetic theory represented by the illusory,artistic and moral relationship of aesthetic experience;the theory of value and the theory of impulsive balance,the theory of communication and the theory of experience,The theory of psychology represented by the theory of imagination;the theory of semantics represented by two uses of language,metaphor theory,and theory of meaning.Based on the reading of books in the Chinese and English versions,these contents wereplaced in the entire critical theory of Richards,combined with other books by Richards.In addition,the three aspects of Richards’ theory were placed in the literary environment of the time,and the views of other literary theorists on these issues were compared.The second chapter is to sort out the acceptance of the Principles of Literary Criticism in China from the 1930 s to the 1950 s.The acceptance of this period was mainly based on introduction and introduction,and was centered on Tsinghua University,Wuhan University,and Yanjing University.Among them,Zhu Ziqing,as a colleague of Richards teaching at Tsinghua University,has had many contacts with Richards.In his literary criticism writings,he accepted the theory of communication theory and language dictionary of aesthetics.Scholars represented by Wang Zhenglong interpret the two usage theories of Richards language as formal aesthetics and take Richards as the representative of theschool of formal beauty.When the academic circle actively interpreted the content of the Principles of Literary Criticism,scholars represented by Rong Xinfang saw the unique relationship between Richards and China,and believed that Richards’ impulse balance theory was influenced by the thought of the doctrine of the mean in ancient China.In her book,he also analyzed in detail the embodiment of the doctrine of the mean in the Principles of Literary Criticism.The fourth chapter is to reflect on the acceptance of the Principles of Literary Criticism in China.There are both creative acceptance and misunderstanding of understanding.The creative acceptance is reflected in the reinterpretation of Richards’ theory by Qian Zhongshu,Zhu Guangqian,Zhu Ziqing and others on the basis of Richards’
